Why you probably need weight loss motivation more than anything else for your weight loss journey
Weight loss motivation – Okay, so you made those incredible weight loss resolutions and goals at the beginning of 2016.
Perhaps as motivated as you were you took action this time by developing a weight loss diet plan, registering for a gym class or a personal trainer and even getting the most enticing gym outfit that is sure to get the guys looking at your butt throughout the gym class.
But then, hold on…
This ain’t the first time you are doing this right? I mean, this is not the first time you are:
- setting weight loss goals and resolutions
- trying a new diet plan
- signing up for a gym class
- feeling so motivated to lose weight
Neither is this first time you’ve gone online searching “how to lose weight fast” and yet still ended the year probably with additional pounds.
Come to think of it, what did you do wrong?
- Was the weight loss diet too strict? Or probably the gym instructor or classes was too harsh
Simply put, if you are like most people you just felt you have had enough or this seemingly monotonous and austere weight loss lifestyle; right?
Don’t be awed am no telepathist
It is just that, you are not the only one to have found yourself in that situation, actually, I have been there before.
Hey, I don’t intend to burst your bubble. Just want you to know why probably now more than ever weight loss motivation is as important as your diet or gym routine.
You see there will be days when you will plateau, and you get to ask yourself what is the essence of all these boring diet plans, fighting cravings and tedious workout if I can’t see any change.
Even more especially, is the fact that you are not going to see any dramatic change overnight, and you are also likely to feel lazy sometimes.
Still don’t see the need for motivation on your weight loss journey???
Now, numbers don’t lie.
Check this out, according to statistics brain weight loss remains the #1 new year resolution made each year recording as high as 38% of new year weight loss resolutions made in 2015.
However, by June only 46% resolvers would be keeping their resolutions and only 8% will still be committed by the end of the year.

How Often Do You Need Motivation on Your Weight Loss Journey?
Every Single Day
Weight loss motivation tips: how to stay motivated on your weight loss journey.
Acknowledge God in all your ways and He shall direct your steps
Before you exclaim WTF!
Let me just ask this. Are you a believer?
Well if you‘re not, don’t worry I won’t be giving you a sermon just yet(will save my sermon for another post 😀 ).
But if you are then I bet you know that everything that matters to you matters to God also.
And moreover, He says, “cast your burdens unto me,” right?
The fact is that knowing that someone else (your maker) is as concerned as you are about your weight goals and a healthy lifestyle can go a long a way to motivate you especially when progress is slow, and family and friends are not inspiring or appreciating you much.
Make your goals inspire you
Okay, so you most probably have goals right?
Well if you don’t, set some.
Write your goals down in the positive present tense as though already achieved. Such as, I weigh X pounds, or I have a flat tummy.
Now, drive your goals down your subconscious by visualizing yourself as having already achieved these goals. Imagine yourself and how you will look, feel and what you stand to achieve when all those goals have been met.
Isn’t it exciting?
Now repeat this on a daily basis, preferably 5 minutes each morning while in bed or standing before the mirror. Now throughout the day you want to be professing it to yourself whenever possible.
As silly as it may sound just give it a try for a day and you will see how focused you will be all day.
Answer precisely your whys
How badly do you want to lose weight?
Make a list of all the reasons why you badly need to shed off the excess pounds. Make sure your answers are as precise and as meaningful to you as possible.
You can make your list as long or as short as you want. Now, write them on your phone or computer or wardrobe or somewhere private if you want no one to see, or you can stick it to the side of your mirror as most people do.
Don’t mind how pathetically silly your reason may seem to you, even if it is to make your ex-bf have regrets the next time he sees you. What matters most is that it can drive you to reach your goal.
Of course, the ideal answer would have been to be healthy, but then, how many of us can become health nuts?
Remain inspired through strategic planning
Plan your day in advance, preferably the night before.
Plan what to eat, what workouts to do, how to avoid some unhealthy foods you are likely to encounter during the day, how you can get 30 minutes despite your busy schedule to workout. Doing this make you feel like a cocked gun ready to shoot.
There is a downside to this in that you are likely to feel disappointed with yourself if you end up not firing, which is if you don’t take action on your plans.
This is where effective diet plans may come in handy though they are not the only means to the end
Get your spouse, family and friends involved if possible.
Let them know your decision as they are the ones likely to get you bingeing unnecessarily.
Join weight loss support groups either nearby or online where you get to meet others who are genuinely interested in your course without necessarily selling weight loss nonsense and scam products to you.
There are tons of such groups on Facebook, weight loss support forums, Reddit, etc

Patience and persistence
Patience is and remains a virtue which will be of immense help if you are to stay motivated to meet your weight loss goals.
The hard fact is this; you may not always lose the exact pounds you purposed to lose.
In fact, there will be times when you may have plateaued for up to a month or even worse gain back some pounds (will explain that in another post). There will be times when you may give in to cravings or feel like workouts are too tasking and boring.
Nothing motivates like success.
You are going to see progress over time, and you want to keep proper track of that progress.
Make sure you weigh yourself accurately with a reliable self-scale.
Not only weighing, check if your clothes are less fit than they use to be, measure your thigh or arm circumference. This should be done once weekly, so you are not thrown off track, preferably Monday mornings.
Take pictures of yourself at the beginning of every month.
Visual aid boosts motivation and especially when you are part of active weight loss support groups them there will merit you thumbs up and inspiring comment that can make you feel like a Hollywood star
Also, in as much as weekly progress will be minimal, is ideal to be writing down the pounds lost each week so on days you plateau or lose seemingly insignificant weight you can just add it up and make it a source of motivation.
One day at a time
On some days, things can seem boring and too tasking. On such days, when willpower is dropping just focus on how you are going to finish today and not the next day. Tell yourself this, “all I need to do is get through today.”
Negativity is NOT Motivation
Now there is the trend of people speaking negative things about themselves like ” I am fat and ugly” or “you better workout or else everyone is going to dump you” to get themselves motivated. Please, you seriously don’t want to do this. It may work temporarily but believe me, in the long run, you are likely to get depressed if you don’t achieve your goals.
